Consumer Education
The OIMP is proud to be a supporting member of the Canadian Partnership for Consumer Food Safety Education, founded in 1997. The Partnership is a coalition of industry, consumer, government, health and environmental organizations. Their educational programs are highlighted by the ongoing FightBAC!® Campaign which includes consumer educational tools for the home and school.
The FightBAC!® campaign is a national consumer focused educational program focused on safe food handling in the home. Our goal is to educate consumers on four simple steps they can take to fight foodborne bacteria and reduce the risk of foodborne illness. Thanks for helping FightBAC!®
It is everyone's responsibility to reduce the risk of food borne illness. Anyone handling food products must be aware of potential food safety hazards. Harmful bacteria and pathogens are commonly introduced in foods once they have reached the consumer, through unsafe storage or cooking. Consumers play the final and key role in food safety.
Reduce the risk of food borne illness by following these 4 simple steps:
Clean: Wash hands and surfaces often.
Separate: Don’t cross-contaminate.
Chill: Refrigerate promptly.
Cook: Cook to proper temperatures.
