Board of Directors

Representing over 100 years of industry experience, the OIMP Board of Directors are individuals that own or operate a meat business. They know the challenges and advocate for changes to help our Members’ businesses succeed.

2009 - 2011 Board of Directors

President - Tony Facciolo

The Facciolo family has been in the meat industry since 1968. Tony and his Dad went into partnership at Holly Park Meat Packers in 1979. Tony joined the Board in 1986 because he wanted to make a difference. Tony volunteers to have a strong voice, allowing him to express his opinion. Tony represents the OIMP on the Ontario Beef Value Round Table and Canadian Veal Association.

Holly Park Meat Packers operates as a Provincial Abattoir, in Caledon, and a Provincial FSMP, in Cookstown. They slaughter lamb, veal, and beef and process many species, including pork products. Holly Park Meat Packers has been a member of the OIMP since 1986.

Past President - Tim Schinkel

Tim Schinkel has been in the meat processing industry since 1988 and is the owner of Schinkel’s Legacy. He joined the OIMP because he feels it is important to have a unified voice and try to improve the industry. Tim joined the Board in 1992 because he believes it is necessary to stay ahead of the curve and to contribute to building the industry. Tim represents the OIMP on the Alliance of Ontario Food Processors Board of Directors.

Schinkel’s Legacy operates as a Provincial FSMP in Chatham. They offer an extensive line of quality European style deli products, including spiral ham. Schinkel’s Legacy has been a member of the OIMP since 1992.

Vice President - Joe Abate

Joe has been in the meat processing industry since 1967 and is President of Abate Rabbit Packers. He joined the OIMP to keep up-to-date and informed about changes and issues within the meat industry. Joe joined the Board in 2000 because he has always felt it is important to give back to the industry. He also volunteers with the Ontario Independent Poultry Processors Association.

Abate Rabbit Packers operates as a Provincial Abattoir in Arthur. In addition to rabbit, they do both air-chilled and water chilled roaster chickens, and all the poultry cuts. They deal in game, such as Cornish Hens, pheasants, guinea hen, squab, quails, goose, duck, and partridge. Abate Rabbit Packers has been a member of the OIMP since 1996.

Secretary/Treasurer - Walter Mueller Jr.

Walter has been in the meat processing industry since 1986 and is a Director for Springer’s Meats. He joined the OIMP because the organization came highly recommended to him, and he felt that the information he would receive, and contribute, could help the industry immensely. Walter joined the Board in 2005 because it was a great opportunity to network and to provide insight from a federal plant aspect.

Springer’s Meats operates as a Federal Processor in Hamilton. They process a variety of European meats and deli products. These products are then sold wholesale and at their retail outlet. Springer’s Meats has been a member of the OIMP since 1989.

Director - Chet Calhoun

Chet has been in the meat processing industry since 2002 and is a team member at West Grey Premium Beef. Chet joined the OIMP because he feels it is the one and only source for our industry in terms of support. Working in a small business, he sometimes feels as if the problems and challenges are unique to only his business, but to him it is reassuring to know that there is an organization of businesses that are working towards solving these challenges, for the overall benefit of the industry. Chet joined the Board in 2005 to stay in touch with what is happening in the industry, and to do his part to create a stronger Ontario meat industry. Chet is involved on the Board of Directors for the Grey Bruce Agriculture and Culinary Association.

West Grey Premium Beef operates as a Provincial Abattoir in Durham. They provide fully traceable, local box beef for retail stores, butcher shops, and restaurants across Ontario. West Grey Premium Beef has been a member of the OIMP since 2005.

Director - Betty Dikeos

Betty has been in the meat processing industry since 1995 and is Vice President of D&D Poultry. She joined the OIMP for the information and knowledge that she can acquire and share to benefit the industry. Betty joined the Board in 2007 because she wants to make a difference in the industry as a whole.

D & D Poultry operates as a Provincial FSMP in Toronto. They produce a wide range of product lines, such as fresh poultry, Mennonite chicken products, and fully cooked products. Their successful Glacial Treasure line includes individually quick frozen items, breaded products, and a skewered line of chicken, pork, lamb, and beef. D & D Poultry has been a member of the OIMP since 2005.

Director - Richard Halenda

Richard has been in the meat industry since 1979 and is President of The Meat Depot and Halenda’s Meats. He joined the OIMP because he felt that we offered a complete picture of what it was going to take to adapt to the new Food Safety Regulations. Richard joined the Board in 2007 because as a processor, distributor, and retailer he wanted to share his knowledge of the industry with others. Richard represents the OIMP on the Alliance of Ontario Food Processor Board of Directors.

Halenda’s Meats operates as a Provincial FSMP in Oshawa. Halenda’s has been voted #1 for their deli and meat shop where they sell a variety of European style meats such as ham and cold cuts and also have a fresh meat counter. Halenda’s has been a member of the OIMP since 2006.

Director - Luis Pavao

Luis has been in the meat processing industry since 1979 and has been the owner of Salsicharia Pavao since 1995. He joined the OIMP because of the industry information that is always readily available. Luis joined the Board in 2007 because he wanted to share his opinions and support the industry.

Salsicharia Pavao operates as a Provincial FSMP in Toronto. They are processors of a variety of different meats such as Veal, Pork, Goat, Rabbit, Chicken, and Sausages, and also carry a great selection of Portuguese, and domestic cheese and other delicatessens. Salsicharia Pavao has been a member of the OIMP since 1993.

Director - Robert Giguere

Robert has been in the meat processing industry since 1979 and has been the CEO of T&R Sargent Farms for 10 years. Robert joined OIMP because he wanted to have a united voice in working with the government. Robert joined the Board in 2009 because he wants to support the membership’s initiative and contribute to their goals as an association. Robert also volunteers with the Board of the Alliance of Ontario Food Processors and the Association of Ontario Chicken Processors, and is a member of CPEPC and FPPAC.

T&R Sargent Farms operates as a Provincial Abattoir in Milton. They offer many fresh Halal chicken product lines including whole roasting and broiler chickens, cut up parts, and specialty cut boneless and skinless poultry meat. T&R Sargent Farms has been a member of the OIMP since 1996.

Director - Cory Van Groningen

Cory has been the co-owner of the family business, VG Meats, for 10 years, but he has been in the meat industry since 1989. Cory joined the OIMP because he wanted to be a part of the unified voice for the industry. Cory joined the Board in 2009 to learn more about and help further the industry. He also volunteers with the Local Cattlemen’s Association and represents OIMP on the Ontario Beef Value Round Table.

VG Meats operates as a Provincial Abattoir in Simcoe. They have won numerous awards for their fresh meats, cured meats, sausages, and heat and serve meals. VG meats has been a member of the OIMP since 1987.

Associate Member Representative - Doris Valade

Doris is the co-founder and President of Malabar Super Spice and has been working in the industry since 1982. She joined the OIMP as an Associate Member to support her customers and for a deeper understanding of today’s market and where it is headed in the future. Doris was appointed Associate Member Representative to the Board in 2009, and likes to be involved because her customers look to her company for industry information and technical support. She believes relevant information can only be given by being an active member in the industry through related associations of which the OIMP is a key connection. Doris is also a Board member of the Canadian Spice Association and member of the Canadian Meat Council, Women in Food Industry Management, Guelph Food Technology Centre, and Ontario Food Protection Association.

Malabar Super Spice is located in Burlington. They provide supplies, ingredients and spices to the meat and food industry. Malabar Super Spice has been a member of the OIMP since 1994.
